2PAC Spray Painting

Two-pack is a catalysed coating. Base and hardener are mixed by ratio, and once they are mixed the clock is running. That is why the board underneath has to be finished before anything is sprayed.

A 2PAC finish is chemically cured rather than air-dried. On joinery that matters more than it does almost anywhere else: kitchen doors get handled every day, wiped with things they should not be wiped with, and steamed from below by a dishwasher. Single-pack paint does not survive that.

It is also unforgiving. Every sanding scratch, every unfilled edge and every bit of contamination under the coating is still there afterwards, magnified by the sheen. Preparation is the majority of the job and the majority of the cost.

We spray to the coating manufacturer’s mix ratio, induction and flash times rather than by eye, and we cure to schedule.

What is 2PAC painting?
2PAC (also written 2K or two-pack) is a paint system where a base component is mixed with a hardener immediately before spraying. The two react and cure chemically rather than simply drying. On cabinetry it gives a hard, washable, chemical-resistant finish that survives daily handling in a way single-pack paint does not.
Why does preparation affect the cost so much?
A two-pack finish magnifies whatever is under it. Sanding scratches, unsealed MDF edges and old filler all telegraph through the sheen. Most of the hours in any job go into preparing the board: spraying is the short part. Two doors that look identical in a photo can differ by a day of preparation.
Can you match an existing colour?
Usually. Best case you have the paint code or the original door. Failing that we can work from a physical sample. There is a colour match fee on the price list for this.
