Fluted island front
A continuous fluted front in black satin: the hardest colour on the hardest profile, with nowhere for either to hide.

A fluted front is a continuous curve. There is no flat surface for coating to sit on, so it wants to run on the outside of every flute and starve on the inside.
Black makes it worse. It hides nothing, and it carries the largest loading on the price list for exactly that reason: it needs more material to reach an even depth, and more material on a curve is the thing you are trying to avoid.
The answer is passes. More of them, lighter, slower, with the gun angle changing across the run so no single flute takes a heavier load than its neighbour.
Checked by raking a light along the flutes rather than looking at it square on. Unevenness shows in the shadow lines long before it shows on the faces.
