Long narrow sections behave differently to doors. The labour tracks the length, not the square metreage, which is why the price list carries linear rates for them.
Cut ends are the first thing to seal. Unsealed, they drink material and dry back with a different sheen at exactly the point two lengths meet.
Mouldings have the same trap as routed doors: internal corners that want to load up and profiles that soften if too much goes on.
These get sighted from the end of the rack. A ripple invisible face-on is obvious from that angle, and a skirting board is seen from that angle for the rest of its life.
Priced by the metre because that is how the work scales.
